Have you ever wished you had just one more room in your house?
Maybe a quiet space to drink your morning shake read a book, or sneak in a little me-time while the world is still waking up. Or perhaps somewhere to gather with friends that doesn’t involve vacuuming first. If that sounds like a dream, I have good news…
You can create that “extra room”—just step outside.
Outdoor living spaces are having a major moment right now, and it’s easy to see why. From cozy backyard nooks to full-on patio lounges, bringing your living space outdoors is one of the most affordable and feel-good upgrades you can make for your home and your health.
Why Outdoor Living is More Than a Trend
Besides being a beautiful extension of your home, spending time outdoors offers real physical and mental health benefits:
It feels like a mini vacation — even if you're just sipping tea on the deck.
Adds functional space — think book nook, meditation zone, or family game night under the stars.
No stress about mess — it’s okay if the kids spill juice on the grass.
Grounding opportunity — go barefoot! Contact with the earth may help reduce inflammation and improve mood.
Calms the nervous system — nature sounds, sunlight, and fresh air help reduce anxiety.
Can lift depression — studies show being outside regularly can improve emotional resilience.
Improves focus — even just 10 minutes outside can help sharpen concentration.
Supports better sleep — natural light exposure helps regulate your circadian rhythm.
Boosts your immune system — thanks to increased vitamin D and reduced stress.
Encourages connection — host a friend for tea, or find stillness on your own.
How to Create Your Outdoor “Room” (Without a Remodel)
You don’t have to build a deck or install a fire pit to make this work. Start simple. Pick a corner of your yard, porch, patio, or even balcony—and begin defining it as a space to be.
Easy ways to set the scene:
Pull together a few comfy chairs or a bench
Hang string lights or solar lanterns for cozy vibes
Add potted plants, herbs, or a small raised bed
Keep a basket of blankets or cushions for chillier evenings
Consider a tabletop fire bowl or citronella candles to add ambiance (and repel bugs)
Tuck in a small side table or tray to hold your drink, book, or protein snack
If you’re in a season of still figuring it out, don’t let that stop you—just start using the space. The more you’re out there, the more naturally it becomes part of your daily rhythm. For Christmas, a year ago, we gave each other a Gazebo and every time we sit out there we just feel life's issues wash away!
From Function to Freedom
Your outdoor space doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to be yours. Whether it’s your barefoot coffee corner, your end-of-day wind-down spot, or your nature-inspired yoga mat zone, this space can offer grounding, restoration, and joy.
So go on—make a little room for yourself. Outside.

We start most days with coffee outside and end with dinner outside or a glass of wine to wind down. What about you? Do you already have a favorite outdoor space? Or are you inspired to create one?
Let’s get grounded, get connected, and breathe a little deeper this season.
