Haluski (Cabbage and Noodles)
The key to good cabbage is to avoid over cooking!
Ingredients:
12 oz egg noodles
4 tbsp butter
1 large onion, sliced
1 small head of cabbage, cored and chopped
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet or pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Opt 1: Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. If you have more time Opt 2.: Add the sliced onions and cook on medium low heat until caramalized. You will need to watch the pan an add a little water if needed to keep it from buring.
Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if using. Stir well and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender. The cabbage should soften, but keep a light green color.
Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to combine, allowing the flavors to meld for a few minutes.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
Optional: Add cooked kielbasa, cooked sausage, or your favorite protein.
This simple yet delicious dish is a great way to embrace seasonal eating while enjoying a comforting meal. Give it a try and savor the rich flavors of cabbage this season!
Enjoy!
