Meals

We've had a lot of fun experimenting with various meal kit delivery services, and overall, I've found them to be really pretty good and in the case of Purple Carrot, excellent! Surprisingly, the cost isn't as high as I expected, but the amount of packaging is a downside. What I love most is having the meals planned out and the shopping done—all I need to do is cook. - See, me too! Here are a few of our favorite recipes from some popular meal delivery services.

My Thoughts on Meal Delivery Services

Pros:

  • Saves time on planning: No need to brainstorm meal ideas.

  • Saves time on shopping: Ingredients are delivered right to your door.

  • Ready to go: You're able to walk in the door and start cooking

  • Chance to try new things: We've enjoyed trying new styles of cooking and new flavors

Cons:

  • Cost: Some services are comparable to grocery store prices, but there is no savings, and sometimes it's in some cases quite a bit more expensive.

  • Excess packaging: There's a lot of waste, including gel ice packs, plastic containers, wrappers, and boxes.

  • No leftovers: This can be a downside if you like having leftovers for lunch.

Plug for the blog! If you're not a fan of menu planning but don't mind grocery shopping, and not ready to dive into delivery services. I've got you covered with dinner ideas! Check out my weekly recipes and enjoy hassle-free meals.

This Week's Menu- Dinner Ideas:

Average cost $13.99 per person per meal

Time: 40 minutes

Simple

  1. I don't like soggy bread or food

  2. It wasn't and was de-licious!! This has been on repeat in our house!

  3. This is our favorite meal kit service. The flavors are fantastic and creative, but it is probably not the best choice for families.

Tips:

If you can't find the specific mushrooms listed in the recipe, feel free to use any variety you have on hand. Additionally, if you'd prefer not to go meatless, you can easily add cooked chicken to the dish for extra protein.

Time: 30 minutes or less

Simple

Average cost $10.99 per person per meal

We love having tacos and have them almost every week, and this fish taco recipe has quickly become a household favorite! When we made it for friends recently, they couldn't stop raving about it. If you're on the hunt for a delicious fish taco recipe, look no further—this one is sure to become a staple in your kitchen. Give it a try and see for yourself!

Creamy White Bean Lemon Orzo Soup - Home Chef Time: 45 minutes

Simple

Average cost $10.99 per person per meal

Tips:

  • Serve this delicious soup with cheese bread and a side salad for a complete meal.

  • For a heartier version, try adding different types of sausage or shredded chicken.

Crab Cakes and Pasta - The Fresh Market, Little Big Meal Deal

Time: 30 minutes or less

Simple

$25 per meal, serves 4. Price may vary depending on location

  • The Little Big Meal Deal at the Fresh Market isn't a meal delivery service, but is a great deal and all you have to do is cook it.

  • The menu changes every week and some weeks are a better deal than other weeks, but always worth a little more than the price of $25.00. One of our favorites is the Crab Cake sandwich meal. Follow the link and purchase the items on the list, in this case, it will be more than $25, but lets you see how it works. Or grab the current week's meal deal and save a little money.

  • I like the pasta salads, but find them to be overdressed, I always cook additional pasta to add to the one we get.

Time:45 minutes

More complex

Average price per person per meal $8.99

This is our treat meal, it is cheesy, creamy, and baconey!
