Let's March into Motivation!
Welcome to March! This month in my Wellness Group we are focusing on motivation and using it as a tool to grow! Little by little, step by step!!
Don't wait for motivation:
We often think that if we are motivated enough we can take action, the truth is that motivation often follows action!! not the other way around.
Waiting to "feel motivated" can keep you stuck. One of the most powerful tricks is to count down from 5 and then dive in! This is the 5-Second Rule from Mel Robbins, and it really works!
Small actions trigger your brain to move out of hesitation and into motion.
Examples:
Put on your walking shoes
Fill a water bottles
Chop one vegetable for dinner
Once you start these actions it can be easier to follow through.
Keystone Habits:
A Keystone habit is a small action that creates a positive ripple effect in other areas of your life. When you start with this habit, it's easier to step out in others.
Instead of changing all the habits at once start with one that would be considered a keystone habit first.
Some keystone habits:
Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning
Exercise
Plan dinner before 4pm
Cooking homemade meals
These are just a few things that when we practice them we find that certain other habits are easier, increasing our motivation. To learn more about Keystone Habits read The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.
Make it Visible:
Another tool to help us with our motivation is making it visible. Using things like tracking sheets and admiring our homemade meals. Being able to look back and see your progress helps our motivation.
Motivation isn't something we wait for. It's something we build through small actions that create momentum! March is a great time to up our motivation games and grow! As we watch buds on the trees and anticipate all of the bounty ahead this spring and summer we can do the same with ourselves.
